Reflecting Cities is a series of screenings at various locations in Amsterdam focusing on the relationship between contemporary and marginalized urban culture and film. Reflecting Cities showcases stories from the peripheries and inner cities which question and bring issues such as police brutality, identity and representation and self-determination to the forefront.

Together with guest speakers, filmmakers and audiences Metro54 & Full Color Entertainment share stories, findings and examples in which contemporary urban culture is shaping new, alternative cinematic narratives.

The Blackboard, strives to provide an intimate lens into the world of skateboarding and the black men and women that now call the sport home despite its inherent whiteness and stereotype-ness.

Starring professional skaters Jabari Pendleton, Karl Watson, and Ron Allen  who was one of the very first black skaters to secure corporate sponsorships and endorsement deals  the film will also delve into issues of acceptance within the black community, challenging identity, culture and knowledge of one self along the way.”

With a short introduction & reflection by a skateboarder & expert Guleed Yusuf and filmmaker and vlogger Bibi Fadlalla.

Please keep in mind that this film screening is in English only and do not forget to bring your Cineville card to the Melkweg Cinema.
