Transition Through Transmissionwith Innavisions

Metro54 is pleased to present Snapshots #7: Transition Through Transmission, a new work by artist and designer Innavisions.
At the heart of Transition through Transmission lies the question of how knowledge, memories, and cultural expression are passed to the next generation within Black diasporic lifeworlds. Innavisions connects spiritual, cosmic, and African diasporic forms of knowledge with his visual language. The exhibition brings together works from different periods of Innavisions’ practice, moving between sound, installations, and artworks. The space unfolds through the frameworks of day and night, two distinct energies emerging: colour, pattern, sound, and image advance and recede.
In Transition through Transmission music continues to be the blueprint for Innavision's artistic process. Specifically, Improvisitional music informs his use of rhythm, repetition, improvisation and movement. He translates these elements into colour and composition, allowing sound and image to move in tandem. Movement is crucial to Innavisions. It is not just as dancing, but can be understood as the body being in an ongoing conversation with music, connecting it to African spiritual traditions, where movement becomes a way of being in contact. Listening, moving, and vibing are different ways to locate oneself within a longer genealogy of transmission. Innavisions echoes this in the ways his artworks transform through music, signifying time, space, lifeworlds, and relationships.
About Innavisions
Innavisions is a self-taught artist and music selecta whose practice has an analytical approach towards art, music and movement. In the early 2000s Innavisions co-founded the influential underground club-night and art platform in Rotterdam, Da Circle of Sole. In 2012, Innavisions co-founded Ultra de la Rue, an artist-run art space in the Red Light District in Amsterdam.
Central to Innavisions practice is his long-time collaboration with architect Afaina de Jong. With their first major work, City of the Sun, made for Metro 54/Tent Rotterdam in 2017 and their spatial installation Space of Other for 17th Venice Architecture Biennale, Innavisions’ visual aesthetic merged with De Jong’s spatial sensibilities into a form language for diasporic life and counterculture. Recently, they have expanded their collaboration, into the development of sonic archives for De Jong’s spatial installations Kinship Library (NDSM, 2025) and Untold Future (Sonsbeek, 2026).
