with Innavisions
Join us on October 8th at 18:30 for a performance by the Rotterdam-based trio Sons of Jumira, as part of our running exhibition Snapshots 7: Transition Through Transmission by Innavisions. In Transition through Transmission, music continues to be the blueprint for Innavision’s artistic process. Specifically, Improvisitional music informs his use of rhythm, repetition, improvisation, and movement. He translates these elements into colour and composition, allowing sound and image to move in tandem.
With Double bassist Julian Tjon Sack Kie, drummer & percussionist Mill Voyance, and harpist Ranie Ribeiro, the ensemble draw inspiration from their ancestories, including the West African Mandinka concept of Jaliya, and the practice and art form of the Jali (griot).
Through fusing cultural inspirations with a commitment to pushing sonic boundaries, Sons of Jumira create a musical language rooted in storytelling and exploration. For this special evening, they will debut a new performance.
Through improvisation, expressiveness, and experimentation, the group continuously responds to one another, creating a distinctive interpretation of jazz where different backgrounds and non-classical playing styles intersect.
We’re looking forward to see you there!
