Un-Muting: w/ Satch Hoyt, A Listening Session

as part of Africadelic festival 2026

Join us on 18th May at 6pm for Un-Muting, a listening session with Satch Hoyt as part of Africadelic festival. In this session, we will focus on his album: Un-Muting (2025) to intimately explore his ongoing practice of un-muting historical African instruments, withheld in Western museum collections. We’ll delve into Hoyt’s practice, and discuss the concept of sonic restitution behind his project for our audiences and communities. We’re looking forward to hosting you in our space, we’ll provide snacks and refreshments.

Un-Muting documents Berlin-based, London-born Jamaican-British artist Satch Hoyt’s ongoing project of un-muting historical African instruments held in Western museum collections. This album features Un-Muting Beyond Misspelt Borders, a composition originally commissioned by Nottingham Contemporary, in which Hoyt continues to challenge the colonial legacies of these objects through his concept of ‘sonic restitution’.

Satch Hoyt is a Visual Artist, musician, and author of Afro-Sonic Mapping.

This event is the festival prologue of the Africadelic Festival 2026 (May 20-27). For the complete festival program, please visit www.africadelic.com.
