Closing of Internet is a Real Place installation
As summer comes to an end, this Thursday 10th September we invite to you the closing of Internet is a Real Place, an interactive installation, initially presented alongside the Diasporic Life: Black Solidarity/Towards Liberation manifestation.
Through our recent visitors and facilitators, this installation has sparked many conversations, doubts and dreams surrounding the digital age, our reliance, complicity but also how our Diasporic existence been thread through the emergence of these technologies, projecting lifewords, third spaces and solidarity on scale our ancestors could’ve only imagined. Internet is a Real Space celebrates the transmission of Black culture across the globe — and challenges the aesthetics, ownership and capital still co-opted by whiteness, and the algorithmic drone which seeks to imitate the multiplicity produced within our communities.
We’re delighted to welcome Eben Badu; co-convener to Internet is a Real Place and founder of The New Originals, in conversation with Georgy Dendoe; from Dutch Hip-hop group SMIB and Jamal Jama; founder of ‘What’s Culture’. We’ll be launching a few special edition T-shirts designed by Qiaochu Guo and some tunes to launch us into the evening. Come through for this final activation! Doors open from 7pm.

That gathering space at Metro54 is located on the ground floor. The doorway is 100 cm wide. The doorway to the toilet is 80 cm wide. There is a support bar attached to the wall, however the toilet doesn’t meet the requirements to be deemed wheelchair accessible.
