The Soft Launch of lost & found home(is)lands w/ Luz
- On behalf of Luz — artist, vocalist and performer and long-time member of our volunteer team at Metro54, and collaborating artist and designer June — we invite you to the soft launch of their new book : lost & found home(islands) on Saturday 19th September from 2pm until 5pm.
Alongside friends from Diasporic and Creole communities, Luz & June will host readings and conversations surrounding the themes of belonging, distance and relation and talk about the research process for their publication. There will be an ongoing screening of Luz’s short film ‘Salt Sisters’ on loop, and an intimate concert of Cabo Verdean songs with Alice Leal Loparic. June will present their drawings and illustrations made through the design of the publication, which will will also be available to purchase.
Throughout the afternoon, we’ll play Cabo Verdean classics to pair with snacks and homemade juices. Looking forward to see you there!

Luz (°2000, Brussels) is a queer transdisciplinary artist with Cabo Verdean heritage. They are a vocalist and performer interested in the voice as a material, and its unique ability to connect. Working with sound, film and performance, their focus lies on intersectional ecology and Creole narratives. Their speculative documentary film practice and thesis research, in collaboration with June, investigates stories of liberation (from Portuguese colonialism) through music, archives and interviews informed by travels to Cabo Verde, Guiné-Bissau, Portugal and Brasil.
June is a Black queer artist, currently based in Brussels. Their practice is rooted in travel and movement. Their work evokes memory, symbiosis and magic, rooted in nature and an intuitive approach of art — with decoloniality, punk and Black-feminism are at the core. They use a constellation of mediums and techniques, including drawing, writing, tattoo, painting, music and textile.
