We Are Out Here – is an ongoing series of public love declaration by Metro54 to street guerrilla poster culture that has produced (in the past decades) a particularly complex design aesthetics, typology, and vernacular across counter cultures. We first took to the streets in September 2020, with a series of posters occupying various intersections and squares in Amsterdam.
This new iteration, We Are Out Here, III: Breathing Room, takes place/ within the realm of our newest program ‘Breathing as a Methodology’ that delves into breathing as a liberatory methodology and practice.
For this iteration we asked designers and artists Siomara van Bochove, Benjamin Li, Yessica Deira, and Emir Hakin to respond to- and/or re-imagine the notion of breathing, it’s politics and relation to everyday life and social justice. These works are now living and growing in public spaces around Amsterdam, so here are some snapshots of the work of Yessica Deira and Emir Hakin in Amsterdam West and De Pijp.
